10+ years of international and domestic flying — Paris, Honolulu, and routes across Asia and Europe, plus domestic routes covering Japan end to end. Long before that, my father's work moved my family around the country, so I grew up in places most visitors never hear the names of. Between the childhood and the flying, there are very few corners of Japan I haven't actually stood in. On board, foreign passengers asked me the same question constantly — where should we go, what should we eat, what's worth the detour. I answered in real time, and heard back on the return flight whether it landed. Ten years of that is a feedback loop you can't get from a guidebook. I know which famous places are worth the queue and which ones aren't. I know the quiet spots, and the ones Japanese people keep to themselves. Omotenashi is in the small things nobody tells you about. That's the part I got good at.
