Mechanical keyboards are becoming more and more popular as they offer an improved typing experience through a more satisfying feeling while typing and significantly more customizability over standard membrane or rubber dome keyboards.
For pre-built keyboards you generally have access to standard "gaming" keyboards featuring almost exclusively cherry MX switches. By building a custom mechanical keyboard you open yourself to the choice of any MX compatible switch such as the Gateron, Kailh, and Zeal lines of switches as well as many others. You also have the choice of which case, PCB, and keycaps you'd like to use allowing for even more customization for the perfect tailored typing experience.
How my service works
The parts of the keyboard will be supplied by you, the customer. That means you will be buying the case, PCB, and switches and having them sent to me. Then, I'll build the keyboard and send off the finished product to you. The customer will cover any shipping costs. My service includes consultation on what parts you should buy based on the specifications you have.

We will discuss when choosing parts, but these are generally the parts you need: Case, PCB, Plate, Switches, Stabilizers You will need to purchase keycaps for yourself, don't need to send them to me.

My service includes consultation on what parts you should buy based on the specifications you have. I'm willing to chat back and forth until we agree on the perfect combination for what you need (ex. quiet switches for the workplace, etc.)

How much do the parts cost?
This varies quite a lot. A cheaper keyboard can be around $150. My recommended parts come out to around $300. There is no ceiling and for the very best keyboards some people end up spending thousands.
