After Giants, I moved into contract, project-based work with DeerPixels, taking on a much wider range of projects than I had before, WooCommerce stores, API integrations, full stack builds, and WordPress projects that needed automation layered on top through n8n and early AI-driven workflows. One project that stands out was a patient management dashboard built with custom PHP for functionality no plugin could handle, which pushed me what WordPress development asks for. This is also where I sharpened the parts of the job that don't show up in a portfolio screenshot: scoping a project accurately before quoting it, managing a client relationship start to finish without a project manager between us, and troubleshooting live systems where something breaking means a client is actively losing time or money. By the time I felt confident owning a project end to end, design, development, automation, and handover, I moved to freelancing independently and started building my career on Upwork.
