Data Scientist – Thesis Research

Designed and implemented a full spatiotemporal analytics pipeline using TRACAB tracking (25 Hz) and Opta F24/F7 event data across 90 Eredivisie matches. Developed the Team Pressing Response (TPR), a composite metric integrating pressure intensity, compactness, pitch control, pass suppression, anticipation, and movement synchronization. Engineered 50+ tactical features capturing spatial structure and temporal coordination, validated using Leave-One-Match-Out cross-validation to prevent temporal leakage. Trained and evaluated ensemble models (Random Forest, XGBoost), achieving stable cross-match generalization with SHAP-based interpretability, and demonstrated that collective coordination metrics outperform isolated pressing indicators (e.g. PPDA) in predicting defensive success.
