I gained six months of professional experience at the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, where I was actively involved in various pre-contract quantity surveying and procurement activities within construction projects. During this period, I supported the preparation of Engineer’s Estimates by analyzing drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate cost estimations in accordance with industry standards and government procurement guidelines. I also assisted in preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) by measuring quantities from drawings and compiling them into structured documents suitable for tendering purposes. In addition, I contributed to the preparation of comprehensive tender documents, including conditions of contract, technical specifications, and pricing schedules, ensuring that all documentation complied with the relevant procurement procedures and project requirements. My role also involved supporting the tender evaluation process, where I participated in reviewing contractors’ submissions, checking compliance with technical and commercial requirements, and assisting in comparative analysis of bids. Furthermore, I was involved in evaluation activities such as Initial Price Analysis (IPA) and other procurement-related assessments to ensure transparency, competitiveness, and value for money in the tendering process. This experience provided me with practical exposure to government tender procedures, cost estimation techniques, and the professional responsibilities of quantity surveyors in the pre-contract stage of construction projects. Through this role, I developed strong analytical, documentation, and procurement evaluation skills while working within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy environment.

I worked at Home Lands Constructions (Pvt) Ltd where I was involved in several post-contract quantity surveying and project cost management activities during the construction stage. My responsibilities included preparing and analyzing construction rates by studying drawings, specifications, labor productivity, and material costs to ensure accurate pricing for project activities. I also assisted in preparing interim payment applications and contractor bills by measuring completed work and compiling the necessary supporting documentation for certification. A significant part of my role involved managing variation works. I identified changes to the original scope of work, measured additional quantities, and prepared detailed variation claims with proper justifications based on contract conditions, drawings, and site instructions. I also supported the evaluation and negotiation of variation costs to ensure fair valuation and proper cost control for the project. Additionally, I carried out quantity take-offs and measurements using as-built drawings and site records to verify the actual work completed on site. This process helped maintain accurate project cost records and supported the preparation of final accounts. I was also responsible for calling quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for additional works and materials, comparing the received quotations, and assisting in selecting the most suitable options based on price, quality, and project requirements. Through these responsibilities, I gained practical experience in contract administration, cost control, variation management, and post-contract commercial management, which strengthened my ability to support the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects effectively.
