UCX collision meshes are convex hull shapes built around each vehicle component that Unreal Engine uses for accurate physics collision detection. Without proper UCX collision setup the car mesh either has no collision, uses an inaccurate auto-generated shape
What is a Physics Asset and how does it relate to vehicle collision?
A Physics Asset is Unreal Engine's per-bone collision and physics configuration system. For vehicles it defines the mass, friction, restitution, and damping of each skeletal component so UE5 physics simulates the vehicle's physical behaviour correctly during collision events.
How does the mesh deformation system work with collision events?
The mesh deformation system listens for vehicle collision events and reads the impact force value. When the force exceeds a defined threshold the relevant deformation zone's morph target blend weight is driven to its damaged state — crumpling the car mesh panel that received the impact.
Can deformation be set up for specific car mesh panels independently?
Yes. Deformation zones are configured per panel — hood, doors, roof, front bumper, rear bumper, and fenders — each with its own collision force threshold so panels deform independently based on where the vehicle collision occurs.
