What is the “Use Model” action in Shortcuts?
It’s an Apple Intelligence action that lets a shortcut send text or files to an AI model and use the response, for example to summarize, rewrite, classify or extract data.
Which devices support Apple Intelligence shortcuts?
Apple Intelligence requires supported hardware and a recent OS, such as iPhone 15 Pro or newer, and iPads and Macs with M-series chips. Availability also varies by region and language, so I’ll confirm your device first.
How private is the data?
You can choose the model: on-device processing, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, or the ChatGPT extension. Apple states that Private Cloud Compute is designed not to store your data. If you choose ChatGPT, data goes to OpenAI under its terms. I’ll design the workflow around your privacy needs.
Can it read PDFs?
Yes. A shortcut can extract text from a PDF and send it to the model. Scanned PDFs may need text recognition, and very long documents may need splitting. I’ll handle this in the design.
Can it return structured data like JSON or a table
Clear instructions, examples, and output formats make results more consistent and useful. I tune prompts against your real documents.

It can, but AI summaries and extractions should always be reviewed by a person before you rely on them for legal, medical or financial decisions.
What do I need to provide?
Your device and OS version, sample documents or text, and a description of what you want the shortcut to produce.
Is support available after delivery?
Yes. A fix window is included, and ongoing prompt tuning, updates for new OS versions, and new shortcuts are available as add-on support.
