At Third Space Learning, I’ve been the architect behind Skye, an AI Voice Maths Tutor designed to operate in real classrooms. Skye is not a chatbot — it’s a voice-first, event-driven AI agent that listens, reasons, and responds in real time while managing session state and learning flow. Designing Skye involved tackling challenges such as: • reactive vs proactive agent behaviour • state machines and event-driven architectures • real-time audio pipelines and latency constraints • safe, deterministic orchestration of LLMs • deciding when an agent should ask, hint, model, wait, or progress.
