Pngtubers work by detecting your voice on discord using a specific code if you're quiet the pngtuber will be darkened and come to life when you start speaking.

Most pngtubers have a speaking image and a not speaking image so that it's more apparent to the audience when they are speaking into the mic but others solely have the one image for both and rely more on the darker overlay on the code to separate it visually.
