FAQ
What makes your program different from what my college's disability services or academic support offers?
Great question! First, a large amount of American colleges and universities do not offer comprehensive academic support for neurodivergent students, just accommodations. I will provide a 1:1 weekly support to help with accountability, time management, academic support, and light advisement.
Who will I be working with? What are their qualifications and experience with neurodivergent students?
Me! My previous professional experience was as Director of an academic support program for a private liberal arts college in New York State. I have 10 years of experience providing academic support for neurodivergent students. I have an M.S. in school counseling & a B.S. in education.
How do the sessions work (e.g., virtual, in-person, phone)?
Virtual, through Zoom or Google Meet.
How often are the sessions for each tier?
Each tier offers a weekly session with additional time that can be added on for the attached price.
Can I take my exams with you?
No! All exam materials are your responsibility as a college student. I have earned my grades and credentials already; this is your turn to do so. I am available to help you with time management, accountability, some advisement, and study preparation strategies!
Will you communicate with professors or campus disability services, if at all?
No. I will assist you with your advocacy, but I do not work for your institution and I am not being hired as an advocate. I can assist you with reviewing protocols, role-playing problem-solving, communicating your needs, and providing YOU the space to take those important next steps as an adult.
Do you have experience with students who have co-occurring conditions (e.g., ADHD and anxiety)?
Yes! There are a lot of co-occurring conditions among ND students; this is something that I am familiar with on a professional level. However, I am not a trained or licensed therapist. Our PRIMARY focus will be on your academic needs.
Can I discuss mental health concerns with you during our sessions?
Yes, to an extent. However, you are hiring me to help you with your academic needs as a college student; any serious mental health concerns need to be addressed with a professional. And no, I will not take on that responsibility for or with you.
Do you provide testing for diagnosis of disabilities, mental health disorders, etc?
No! That is not my background nor am I qualified to do so. I am offering academic support only.
Am I required to share personal testing, documentation, educational plans, etc?
Not formally. However, the information you do share with me is kept confidential and is only relevant to your immediate goals/needs as a college student. If you do share anything with me, it is of your own volition and I will not keep anything once our sessions have concluded.
